Washington State Flower Coloring
The state of Washington chose Rhododendron as their State Flower. (along with West Virginia) There are many types of Rhododendron but the one in Washington is called the Coastal Rhododendron. (sometimes called the California Rhododendron!)
They grow on a woody evergreen shrub and are available in shades of Purple, from dark Purple to light Purple and also sometimes White.
The shrub is actually called the King of Shrubs. On some of the flowers the colors White and light Purple and dark Purple coexist on the same flower. They are native to Asia, and North America both. They bloom in May or June and have a lovely scent.
